What we collect, and what we do with it.
This policy covers fenedu.org and the FEN course platforms: the Personal Finance Reader, the Entrepreneurship Reader, FEN Grammaire and FEN Grammatik. It is written in plain language. Effective October 23, 2026.
The short version
- We collect what a course needs to run: a name, an email address, a school, and the work and scores a student produces in the course.
- We do not sell personal information, and we do not show advertising. There are no advertising or tracking cookies on our sites.
- Student data belongs to the student and the school. Teachers see their own students' work. We look at it only to run and support the service.
- You can ask us to export or delete your data at any time by writing to contact@fenedu.org.
Who we are
FEN Educational Resources ("FEN", "we") publishes digital courses and textbooks from the United States. For questions about this policy or your data, write to contact@fenedu.org.
What we collect
On fenedu.org. If you send a form (a demo request, a session request, a contact message, a Teacher Edition request, a book pre-order or a notify-me signup), we receive what you typed: usually a name, an email address, a school and your message. Forms are delivered by Netlify, our hosting provider, and arrive in our email. We keep them as long as we are in contact with you about the request.
In the course platforms. To use a course you sign in with a Google account or, where a school chooses it, with a class code. We store the name and email address of the account, the school it belongs to, and everything the course produces: lesson progress, notes and highlights, quiz and test attempts and scores, project and Founder File answers, links to files students share from their own Google Drive or OneDrive (we keep the link, not the file), messages between a student and their teacher, team membership, and certificates. For Pitch Day, outside judges sign in anonymously and we store the name they type and the scores they give.
Purchases. Textbooks and e-books are sold through Amazon and through Payhip; those companies handle payment and keep the purchase records under their own policies. We receive the buyer's name and email address so we can deliver digital files and answer support questions. We never see card numbers. Where a Teacher Edition is licensed to a named teacher, the file carries that licensee's name.
Technical data. Our hosting and database providers keep standard server logs (IP address, browser, pages requested) for security and reliability. We do not use analytics or advertising services on our sites.
How we use it
- To run the course: show a student their own work, show a teacher their class, grade and release scores, draw certificates.
- To support you: answer a message, fix a problem with an account, deliver a purchase.
- To improve the courses: we look at which questions a whole class misses so we can rewrite a lesson. This is done on aggregated results, not by following an individual student.
- To keep the service safe: detect abuse and keep accounts separated by school.
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We do not use student data for advertising, for profiling, or to build anything other than the course the school signed up for.
Students and schools
When a school uses a FEN course, the school decides who signs in and what is taught; FEN processes student information on the school's behalf and under its direction, as a school official with a legitimate educational interest in the sense of FERPA. The teacher sees their students' work. Parents and eligible students may ask their school, or us, to see or correct a student's records. Our courses are made for high school students; where a younger student is enrolled by a school, the school provides the consent required by COPPA.
Teachers can message students inside the platform; nothing is emailed to students. Pitch Day judges and classmates see only team names, venture names, first names and roles, never email addresses.
Where the data lives and who helps us
The course platforms run on Google Firebase (authentication, database and file storage) in Google Cloud data centers in the United States. Sites and forms are hosted by Netlify. Written answers can be sent, with no student name attached, to an AI model (Anthropic's Claude) to suggest a score and feedback that the teacher reviews; a school can turn this off in its settings. Payments are handled by Amazon and Payhip. Each of these providers is bound by its own privacy terms and processes data only to provide its service to us.
Cookies
The course platforms use the sign-in session that Google Firebase sets, plus local storage in your browser to remember where you were, your draft answers and your preferences. fenedu.org sets no cookies of its own. We use no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies anywhere.
How long we keep it
Course data is kept while the school's licence or the learner's subscription is active, and for one school year afterward so that a returning school keeps its records, unless the school asks for earlier deletion. When a school closes a class, past attempts are archived under the class name. Form messages are kept while we are in contact with you. Purchase records are kept as long as tax law requires.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to see the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, to export it, or to delete it. Write to contact@fenedu.org from the email address on the account, or ask your school to contact us. We answer within two business days and complete requests within thirty days. Deleting an account removes the work in it; a teacher who needs grades for a report card should export them first.
Security
Access to course data is controlled by rules on the database that limit every account to its own school and role. Teachers and administrators are added by email address. Data moves over encrypted connections. Answer keys and tests are never shipped to a student's device. If we ever learn of a breach that affects your data, we will tell you and your school without undue delay.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and tell schools by email. Earlier versions are available on request.
